My employer currently restricts access to Sage 50 due to the fact the sales people can easily send all data they can see into excel. This in itself isn't an issue but the company is only small-medium sized and in this particular industry it's not unheard of for sales people to turn up at a competitor. The products being sold are almost commodity like so the company's customer list is highly prized.
As a consequence of not allowing sales people access a list of all current and previous customers they aren't able to give them access to input their sales orders on this system. This in turn means they have to create this elsewhere thus creating more work and there are even talks of using a complete ERP system and moving away from Sage (integrations can be clunky and expensive for what they are).
I believe if there were access rights on the send to excel buttons my employer would allow the sales people to input their sales orders directly onto sage as the risk of exporting the entire customer database is mitigated.
